We’ve recently had meals out at these places which we can heartily recommend:

• Cotherstone Old Chapel Shop and Cafe – our new community owned shop and cafe in Cotherstone. Excellent selection of hot and cold sandwiches, home-made bakes and cakes. Best coffee in Teesdale!
• The Forresters Pub/Restaurant, Middleton-in-Teesdale
  A unique combination of French cuisine and traditional British pub food.
• The Fox and Hounds, Cotherstone – good pub food and beer. Fish and chips is especially good!
• Babul’s – Curry, Cocktails, Coffee in Barnard Castle
  An old favourite of ours for eat-in or takeaway.
  

Winter walking in Teesdale can be just as spectacular as during warmer times. Hury Reservoir is just a mile up the road from the cottages – this photo was taken at the far end, about 2.5 miles away.

Just remember to wrap up warm!

Funny Way To Be Comedy at the Witham Hall, in Barnard Castle – an excellent line of up top quality comedians over the next few months, including Lucy Porter, Phil Jupitus, Richard Herring and Rich Hall.

Tickets are on sale for the Kynren show this summer. This is a massive new addition to the area, an epic show featuring over 1000 actors, playing out scenes from 2000 years of British history.

Together with multi-million pound developments at Auckland Castle, and the regeneration of the town centre,  Bishop Auckland looks set to become a great place to visit!

We have just opened our new leisure facility, which currently boasts a 6 seater hot-tub, and an “Endless Pool” swimming pool with current. We are just putting the finishing touches to the gym area and games room. The games room will shortly have a pool/table tennis/air hockey table, bean bags and library area. The gym currently has a treadmill, more equipment to come soon.

Comedian Mark Steel recently came to Barnard Castle to record an episode of his BBC Radio 4 Comedy “Mark Steel’s in Town”.  We went to the recording, and would recommend listening out for it – it’ll be on a Tuesday at 6:30pm, probably sometime in June.
