Welcome To East Briscoe

Coronavirus/Covid-19 Update

Following the latest government instructions, we are now closed until further notice. All bookings in the up to 8th May have been cancelled. Obviously the situation is very uncertain, but we don’t expect to be re-opening any time soon.

Any current booking can be moved to a future date – either later in the year or to 2021. If you need to cancel your booking completely we will provide a full refund for bookings up to the end of May.

New Bookings
Any bookings made from now on will be eligible for a full refund if cancellation is required for any reason, until the current advice on restricting travel and social contact is relaxed. After that time, our normal cancellation policies will apply.

Please contact us if you have any questions. We wish you all the very best of health in the coming months.

East Briscoe Farm Cottages has a fantastic leisure facility – The Pool-House, which boasts a 6 seater hot-tub, and an “Endless Pool” swimming pool with current. There is also a gym area and games room, which has a pool/table tennis/air hockey table, plus a seating area overlooking our orchard. If you come as a large group, the games room makes a great space to get together, whether for afternoon tea, or to party all night!

Award-winning East Briscoe Farm Cottages are set in a beautifully peaceful, south-facing position, on a 14-acre wooded riverside estate in Teesdale, County Durham, near Barnard Castle.

Surrounded by beautiful North Dales countryside, East Briscoe is the perfect place to escape and unwind; offering a wealth of interest for naturalists, cyclists and walkers. The holiday cottages are situated in Baldersdale (made famous as the former home of Hannah Hauxwell), two miles from the village of Cotherstone, which has two excellent pubs and a village shop/post office.  We are 6 miles from Barnard Castle, a thriving market town with the  famous Bowes Museum and English Heritage Castle.

Children are well catered for, with a play area and sand pit for the little ones, and a trampoline, woodlands and river to explore for all ages.

All holiday guests can enjoy nature walks around the estate, fishing on our own stretch of the River Balder and in nearby reservoirs, free-range eggs from the resident hens and seasonal food from the vegetable garden.

What do our guests say? – Some quotes from online reviews and Cottage Visitors’ Books:

“Me and 14 friends visited Chris’ place, and all had a fantastic time. The area is stunning for walking and the views can even be enjoyed from the hot tub and pool, by far the favourite part of our stay. The cottages themselves were cosy and warm and had more than enough facilities to accommodate us all. Would definitely visit again and recommend Chris’ place!”  (Airbnb January 2020)

“We booked the cottages for a family celebration. I liked the fact we were all in separate accommodation but were able to socialise and eat all together! Fantastic!”  (Airbnb, October 2019)

“Very quiet and relaxing. We had an amazing time” ( Farm, February 2015)

“Amazing location and beautiful festive touches to the cottage made it feel like home away from home. We will definitely be back for another visit.” (Farm, New Year 2015)”

“Cottage lovely, warm and cosy as always. See you soon.” (West Cottage, November 2014)

“Very comfortable, Lovely and quiet. Good views to wake up to in a morning. Best cottage I’ve stayed in. (West, November 2014)

Owner/Managers Emma & Chris live on site with children Grace & Sam. We also have a larger, 4 bedroom holiday cottage available in Cotherstone (right next door to the pub!) – for more details see Red Lion Cottage.
